چکیده

The properties of the first generation of black-hole seeds trace and distinguish different models of formation of cosmic structures in the high-redshift universe. The observational challenge lies in identifying black holes in the mass range ∼ 100 − 1000M⊙ at redshift z ∼ 10. Here we show that future groundbased laser interferometers could observe gravitational waves produced by the coalescence of the first generation of light seed black-hole binaries and provide, possibly unique, information on the evolution of structures in this era. Using galaxy merger trees and four different models of black hole accretion we find that future detectors could study a few to a few tens of seed black-hole merger events in three years. We show further that a network of detectors will be able to measure the luminosity distance to typical sources to a precision of ∼ 30%, allowing us to be confident of the high-redshift nature of the sources. Gravitational waves from inspiraling binary black holes

Binary black holes are the most promising candidate sources for the first generation of earth-based interferometric gravitational-wave detectors. We summarize and discuss the state-of-the-art analytic techniques developed during the last years to better describe the late dynamical evolution of binary black holes of comparable masses. Detecting Massive Black Holes via Attometry: Gravitational Wave Astronomy Begins

In their fall 2015 observing run the two detectors of the Advanced Laser Interferometer GravitationalWave Observatory (Advanced LIGO) simultaneously observed transient gravitational-wave signals. The detected waveforms indicated the inspiral and merger of pairs of massive black holes more than 1 billion years ago. These discoveries marked the first direct detections of gravitational waves and t...

Gravitational waves, black holes and cosmic strings in cylindrical symmetry

The emission of gravitational waves by black holes is under intense investigation, in preparation for the expected observational study of black holes and other astrophysical objects by upcoming gravitational-wave detectors. Most of this work is either numerical or in an approximation, since we lack a full physical understanding of the dynamics of black holes and gravitational waves. The accepte...

The First Detection of Gravitational Waves

This article deals with the first detection of gravitational waves by the advanced Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO) detectors on 14 September 2015, where the signal was generated by two stellar mass black holes with masses 36 M and 29 M that merged to form a 62 M black hole, releasing 3 M energy in gravitational waves, almost 1.3 billion years ago. We begin by providin...

Stochastic background of gravitational waves generated by pre-galactic black holes

In this work, we consider the stochastic background of gravitational waves (SBGWs) produced by pre-galactic stars, which form black holes in scenarios of structure formation. The calculation is performed in the framework of hierarchical structure formation using a Press-Schechter-like formalism. Our model reproduces the observed star formation rate at redshifts z . 6.5. The signal predicted in ...
